IV Latin American Congress of Clinical-Laboratory Toxicology
Presentation:
The 4th Latin American Congress of Clinical-Laboratory Toxicology (ToxiLatin 2025) is an initiative of the Latin American Association of Environmental, Experimental and Nanomaterials Toxicology (ASTOXILATIN) aimed at advancing Toxicology in Latin America in the face of challenges that arise as demands of society. Currently, Toxicology is in the era of the exposome, which considers, in addition to genetic factors, also the exposure to different xenobiotics through water, air, food, soil, medicines and cosmetics affecting the general health of the individual. In view of this, the proposal of ToxiLatin 2025 is to discuss the challenges of studying the exposome at the environmental, occupational and experimental levels. In this context, primary health care emerges as the first care for individuals chronically exposed to toxic agents.
Other topics of interest will be addressed, such as the discussion of an antidote policy for acute poisonings and training of professionals in Latin America, drug safety assessment, air quality assessment, use of the zebrafish model in Toxicology, environmental expertise and the impact of climate change on poisonings, aligning the event with the 2030 Agenda. In this way, it contributes to the growing need for specialized training of undergraduate and graduate students, teachers and health professionals in Toxicology with technical and scientific knowledge focused on society’s problems, keeping up with innovations and dissemination in the area and corroborating with high technical and scientific qualifications.
Holding ToxiLatin 2025 will fundamentally contribute to leveraging toxicology in Latin America, favoring the interaction of researchers and professionals from different countries and deepening discussions aimed at solving common problems in Latin American countries, as well as assisting in the reconstruction of the state of Rio Grande do Sul, heavily affected by floods resulting from climate change.
